The tales of a home grown Jersey girl...

Maggi’s Bio Maggi has been singing, loudly, since she first landed here on earth. She inherited her voice from her mother (you should hear their ‘Blue Moon’ duet; it’s priceless), with a bit of help in the projection from her father. Most evenings, before supper, she would act as page turner at the piano for Mom, and sing everything from Irish folk ballads, to show tunes, to Catholic hymns. (She’s still in recovery from the guilt, but is working on it…) Throughout her formative school years, she sang in the chorus; and in high school and beyond, performed in numerous musicals. She’ll never forget singing “How Lovely to Be A Woman” (from Bye, Bye, Birdie) in a white bikini (where it was painfully obvious she was anything but), her voice shaking terribly, and wavering on the high notes…But the experience was character-building, which continues to serve her well today. Most would say she’s a bit of a character… She started to sing in cover bands during the 80’s, complete with the Pat Benatar-growl/spandex act ( a precursor to today’s angry young women folk artists), but, justifiably, was never taken very seriously. During this period, she began to write songs in her basement. She married the guitar player (natch) from a rockabilly band in which they both worked, and took a break to give birth to and change diapers for their three children over the next five years (yes, she was tired). Eventually they put together a cover band called The Pedestrians which played in the central NJ area for a few years. As time went by, Maggi began to wonder what Maggi sounded like, so she bought a four track, and began to lay down some of her own songs. Over the past five years, Maggi has dived deeply into the songwriting world, both locally, and in Nashville, with the help of her friend Chuck Ehrmann. Her first c.d., showcased here, is a result of her work both in Nashville, and here in l’il ole Hopewell, New Jersey. She performs regularly with her six piece band and four piece semi-acoustic group. The Maggi Hill Band recently performed on the same bill as blues legends John Mayall, Jimmy Vaughn, Marcia Ball, and others. She is currently hard at work on her second c.d., no doubt destined to continue her tradition of stubbornly refusing to be categorized-suffice it to say it will have some blues, rock, pop, and probably a touch of alternative country.
